Carpets from Mashad are typical medallion carpets, primarily with a red base tone and blue ornamentation. They are made at a mid-knot setting that ranges from 160,000 to 250,000 knots per square meter. The knot-weaving tradition in this northeastern area of Persia is deeply rooted in carpet history. Renowned weavers come from Mashad, and even today they still immortalize themselves with a signature on the carpet; a unique feature among quality carpets of this stature.
