Heriz

The Heriz carpet is the quintessence of a rustic and hard-wearing carpet named after the village where it is made. These carpets, which appear somewhat bulky and have an unmistakable, geometric pattern design (large centerpiece), are knotted by villagers not only in Heriz but also in surrounding communities such as, Gorevan, Mehraban, etc. Each village and each weaver in the village has an own knotting signature. There are weaves with only 60,000 knots per square meter and weaves with over 160,000 knots per square meter. Heriz carpets are all robust carpets that are woven on a resilient warp of cotton yarn. Large size carpets are traditionally woven, i.e., 300 x 200 cm, 350 x 250 cm and larger. Small bridge rugs and runner rugs are rather seldom.
